Church Marketing: How to create a comprehensive events calendar

Churches should take a lot of time to plan next year’s calendar.

Administrators should think through each and every event, making sure that key events don’t overlap with other key events.

Then you need to develop marketing plans for each event.

I suggest each item is assigned a level. Something like:

A-Level (Easter, Christmas, leadership conference, missions conference, etc.) — When these events occur, the whole church is rowing. Each department goes all out with internal and external marketing campaigns, announcements, relationship building, invites, and so on.

B-Level (Parents Night Out, youth camps, choir concerts, etc.) — These are specific to individual areas — youth, parents, seniors. These might require very targeted marketing, word-of-mouth, announcements from the pulpit, bulletin inserts, etc.

C-Level (small group events, speakers, internal events) — These are group-level events that require little marketing and should have strong buy-in from the groups involved.

With this type of schedule rolling out at the beginning of the year, you’ll be able to see exactly what’s coming. No surprises.

It allows you to be proactive, assign appropriate resources and build in ample time to market your events.

Does your church create marketing plans for each and every event?
