Today is Maundy Thursday. Why is that important?

“Maundy” means washing of the feet.

Today is Maundy Thursday, the day we celebrate the Last Supper and Christ’s humble act of washing his disciples’ feet.

One of the most tender sights I’d ever seen was a former pastor of ours washing his wife’s feet while he gave a sermon. There was no “show” to it. He didn’t do it for any entertainment purposes. It was a public display of humble servanthood.

Take time today to read John 13:1-17 to experience Jesus’ example. Put yourself in that upper room on that night when the Savior of the World took a towel and a basin of water, bowed to his friends, and washed their feet.

It’s an amazing example of love, one that is hard to comprehend.

How will you humble yourself and serve someone today?
