Here’s an idea! Cancel the church service.

I once heard a preacher speak about motivating his flock to do mission work in the community.

He quickly identified a challenge. The church, he said, often scheduled its community outreach events on Saturdays. And when Saturday would roll around, no one would show up.

His response?

He stopped planning community outreach on Saturdays.

Instead, he waited for the congregation to show up Sunday. And when everyone was seated in their pews, he walked to the stage and announced from the pulpit that there would be no church service that day. Instead, he revealed that buses were waiting outside the church doors to take them to the place where they would do mission work!

Has your church overcome this obstacle? How does your church fire people up for ministry?
