It started with a simple question

I’m very excited to announce that a few weeks ago our 5-year-old son accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

And I’m excited to say that I was privileged to be the one to pray with him.

It started with a simple question: “Dad, how many lives do we get?”

The conversation evolved over the next few minutes and concluded with my little boy asking Jesus into his heart and to lead his life.

I’ll be honest. I’d never been in that position before — to pray with someone to accept Christ. I was surprised at the simplicity of it all. The simplicity and innocence of the question. The simplicity of the answer. The simplicity of the prayer.

Something so simple has such incredible and astounding consequences. Eternal life. A personal relationship with the Creator. Access to the power of the Holy Spirit.

It made me think how often we make the good news of Christ’s death and resurrection too complicated. I’ve discussed it many many times with nonbelievers. And it sometimes ends in frustration and doubt that I was able to present the gospel in an understandable way.

But, yet, it’s so simple to a 5-year-old boy.

Maybe we shouldn’t make the gospel so difficult when we share with others. A simple message of sacrifice, love, and salvation.

May you be blessed as you witness and share God’s love.
